Former Clinical Pharmacy Services Intern and Job Shadow at University of Massachusetts Medical School
over 1 year ago
My experience was different than what you will likely go through. Based on my summer baseball schedule, I was only able to work this internship once a week. My responsibilities mainly included creating data tables displaying quality of employee performance and presenting those to different managers within the department. I also parsed through, organized, and tabulated unstructured pharmaceutical data. A lot of data comes into the office in ways that are not easy to read quickly, and my role was to fix that. I also shadowed pharmacists as they accepted calls from various prescribers across Massachusetts. Often times callers were angry because they could not get their patients the prescriptions they needed. It was interesting examining this process from the perspective of a pharmacist sitting in a cube taking calls versus a pharmacist who fills prescriptions at a pharmacy. Policy becomes more prevalent.
