Former Summer Financial Analyst at American Airlines
about 2 years ago
I feel my experience (Summer 2015) was relatively atypical as compared to the experiences of other interns. Personally, I did not sit on the same floor as the team I was assigned to work with and I was barely given work to do; I could not have shown up and I was confident people would not have realized. Ultimately, this makes me think that the biggest skill you need to succeed as a Summer Financial Analyst is finding places where you can add value. Realistically, this is going to be done by being proactive and talking to other members of the team to both learn more about what a full-time job would be like and to see if there is any work that you could do for them, assuming it won't interfere with the main work you've been assigned (based on my experience, that won't be an issue -- I rarely had anything to do).
