Former Paraeducator at Santa Clara County Office of Education
about 2 years ago
I worked at Hester with Special Needs Adults. A typical day would involve getting students off the bus or out of some other mode of transportation and into the classroom. The day is then up to the teacher's design and could involve individual work, movies, playground time, going out into the community, sitting for events, or any combination of those activities. At the end of the day the para's help students get all their things together and get on the bus or whatever mode of transportation the students take home. I should mention...Paraeducators work with students who are severely disabled to the point of needing help going to the bathroom, cleaning messes, or simply being safe. If you can deal with all that then the job can be an awesome learning experience as a person.
