Former Swim Coach at The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa

the duties are simple, however, the tasks are not easy. The first thing you do is line up the children and designate them to their swim lanes. Depending on the age group, the coaches take rotations of being in the water with the children to help them with their swimming. I highly recommend this job to people who have been on a swim team and actually know the strokes. On that note, I have seen multiple coaches who do not know proper stroke technique and teach the kids the wrong thing. Anyway, the rotations are a good change of pace and when you aren’t in the water you are telling the kids the next excercise they will swim. It’s fairly simple. On days where you have swim meets, you duties include: wrangling your age group, getting them to their races, and encouraging the kids as they swim. It is a fun job but it can be frustrating at times with kids trying to fight each other.
