In my experience, it completely depends on what you can handle. You are very in control of your own work load. If you get passionate about your project it can be easy to get carried away but there may also be weeks where you are very stuck and so don't do much work at all. In the summer, I enjoyed a very good balance because they strongly discourage going into overtime hours (you aren't actually allowed to unless you get it cleared ahead of time) so after you're day is over you have a free evening, something that is never the case during the school year.
