Former Research Assistant, Department of Animal Science at South Dakota State University
almost 2 years ago
There is no typical day really, it varies with your specific project. The things you can expect include working with animals to take care of them or to collect data, entering data into some computer software, reading manuscripts to research techniques and methods or to review literature for a study, attending seminars in the department, working in the laboratory, taking classes, ordering supplies such as feed for your project if needed, helping to teach undergraduate classes, usually the lab sections but not always.
Because most of the work in Animal science requires group work at some point, students sometimes are called on to help other students or to help out in the department on some event such as serving pulled pork at an SDSU game.
