Former Extended School Year - Special Education Assistant Teacher at School District 64
almost 2 years ago
The day is pretty organized logistically, as students like to have a set schedule without too much variety. We always had the schedule written on the board before the day began and crossed things off as they occurred. A few students go to typical classrooms for a hour or two during the day (cooking class, read & bake, etc.) so sometimes an assistant teacher will accompany them as a one-on-one aide in those classes. We always had snack time, recess, math, and reading. We also had physical, occupational, social work, and speech therapy group sessions each once or twice a week which was a really cool opportunity to see what educational therapies look like.
