Compliance Summer Analyst at Goldman Sachs

It does! Before you arrive, you’re paired with a buddy and manager. Your buddy is an analyst or associate who’s your cheerleader, confidant, and mentor. You can talk to him/her about anything. Your manager is someone you have weekly catch-ups with and who’s also there to support you throughout the summer. Both your buddy and manager will be on the same team as you, so you’ll get to know them very well. Aside from this, you’ll be encouraged to grab coffee with other members of your team or employees in Compliance in general. You’ll also get exposure to other peoole in the firm through the Senior Speaker Series, Global Affinity Networks, and intern-specific networking events.

There is a strong culture of mentorship in Goldman Sachs both through a formal network and an informal network through your immediate and extended managers and directors etc. Due to the flat hierarchical organisation structure, it is easy to find support and guidance from senior management. I would encourage you to reach out and ask for help from anyone that you think may help your career. I have always found people to be responsive and eager to help.

Yes, they have a summer analyst mentorship program. When you get there they pair you up with another individual from your division who is similar to you. By that I mean an alum from your school, someone who went through the internship process, and/or someone junior on the team who likely is relatable. It is a wonderful aspect of the summer analyst program and helps you feel at home. Your mentor is always there to answer any question you have about the firm or other wise and they want you to succeed as much as you do.

They did have a buddy program. You were paired with a fairly recent higher with 1+ years of experience. Your buddy would then assist you with all sorts of things. They answered any questions you had about the company, about the transition into full time if you received an offer. They held several events for the interns. While your buddy may not be in the same field as you, they can still prove to be very helpful.

GS absolutely has a mentorship program! We are assigned a “GS Buddy” and a “GS Mentor” when starting internships - both have become close points of contact for me over time and are now friends. They have helped provide me with candid advice and helped me make the transitions/growth that I have wanted so far in my career. Moreover, GS strongly encourages and rewards networking. I was able to network with over 150 professionals across divisions and offices. Some of which provided ongoing help through my internship and afterwards.
