Former Public Relations and Special Events Manager at Macy's, Inc.
Dress well - professional, interview attire (good suiting, good shoes). Be ready to talk about your versatility, your ability to work with various partners, and how you keep your eye on outcomes and results. As a top retailer, Macy's is all about the bottom line. The more you can demonstrate that you understand the bigger picture to public relations, community relations, and events, the more appealing a candidate you will be. Additionally, being able to show that you know how to stay organized and keep projects on track throughout their life cycle is a big plus. Class work can lend well to this if/when you have planned and implemented research or projects that extend over weeks, months, or a full year. Similarly, if you have been involved with student clubs or organizations that required long-lead planning and deadline-based implementation, you should showcase those examples. Be prompt, professional, and interested in the business at hand. P.R. and events is all about jumping on opportunities, so be very responsive before and after the interview and throughout the application process (and, if you get the job, too - of course!).
