Former Holiday Selling Floor Recovery at Macy's, Inc.

I order to be prepared for an interview regarding the Holiday Selling Floor Recovery position at Macy's Inc., you have to know your past experiences such as doing team work projects, know your past experiences with handling tough situations when it comes to work, and be able to answer those type of questions in the job interview, including other experiences you had while working with previous employers.
Working support at Macy's also means working with a team for the most part. A lot of the questions for positions involving support will be behavior-based and based on group-experiences primarily.
You are free to talk about past group work experiences (such as previous group projects in school or previous work experiences) but I would frame it in a way which makes you seem very collaborative and accepting of others since you'll often be working with a variety of different people in teams to accomplish a goal.
Be prepared to answer simple interview questions to a sales manager. It is taken place as a one on one interview in the HR department of the store. Some questions I was prompted to answer were: “may you tell me about a time you worked with a team to achieve a common goal?” “Describe to me a time where you needed to sell something to someone.” and lastly, “how important is enthusiasm to you?”
Smile, smile, smile!! A lot of the questions and the answers they were looking for had to do with customer service and being able to work in teams, so keep that in mind as you prepare for the interview.
Just be ready to be asked questions about how you would deal with certain retail situations. For example, how would you convince a customer to buy a product they’re unsure about. To which my go to response is always to remind them how great they look in it, how useful it is etc.. and that worse comes to worse you can always return it. My interviewer asked me to draw back to personal experiences so be prepared for that. Other than that keeping a positive attitude and sounding like you’d always do your best should be enough.
Be ready to explain any past sales experience. Look good and act positive, keep a smile on your face as you will be expected to do the same on the sales floor. You will also be asked about personality, maybe situations where you were dealing with a nervous or hot-tempered clients, and sales target achievement.
Wear business casual clothing, such as dress pants with a nice blouse or a dress for a woman, or dress pants and a dress shirt with a tie for a man. Pay attention, be yourself, and go in with the mindset that you will get the job.
Be honest, confident and straightforward. Figure out what you want from the job and communicate that to the interviewer. They won't be lloking for much aside from self confidence and the ability to treat others kindly, fairly, and helpfully.
Be prepared to talked about past experiences where you solved difficult situations where the customer was wrong but you made them feel they were right. It would be a bonus if you explain how you handle hard customer service experiences leaving the customer happy that would definitely come back again to the store.
To prepare for an interview with Macy's, Inc, know these things:
1- Why are you applying for the position?
2- What can you contribute to Macy's by working there?
3- What are your strengths?
4- What are your weaknesses?
I also recommend coming with a couple of solid questions to ask the person interviewing you.
Ultimately, be yourself. Be comfortable. Take time to think about the questions you're asked and answer to the best of your ability. Macy's, Inc is a great company and trust that you would be a great addition to that company!
They are looking for Sales Associates with experience of waiting on customers. They want to hear concrete examples of how you have waited on different customers, what kinds of questions you have asked them, how you have built sales, overcome objections and added add-ons. They will ask you how you have handled difficult customers. They will ask you to describe your most stressful situation and how you resolved it. They want to see how you can handle more than one customer at a time, how you can manage crowd control and how to deal with customers who want to speak to the manager. They may very well ask you to role play.
Be yourself. I ultimately got the position by letting my personality shine. Showing that your human and that you’ll be a representative of the brand that people will naturally gravitate to and be comfortable with, is important.
First be your self and have confidence. Secondly, it depends for which department you're going to be interviewed for. For example if its clothing, know what is in trend these days, how to interact with people and help them to choose.
Most of all, all time favorite pitch in sales is, to sell a pencil or a pen. So, be prepared.
Dress properly and where something Black (preferably) with a hint of any color (Especially upper half).
The interview process at Macy's is extremely calm and not particularly challenging. I was able to complete mine over the phone. Just be prepared to answer questions about challenges you've overcome, and connect items on your resume to these challenges.
The majority of the questions put you hypothetical situations. They will ask you about how you feel about being in a leadership position (say you are willing to take charge). They also will ask you what you would do if you seen a coworker breaking the rules (say try to handle it yourself first then seek management if needed). They highly push credit cards, so they will ask you how you will open them (Sell the benefits). They will ask about a time you had to take charge of a situation. They ask about basic strengths and weaknesses. It is a simple interview in a small room with one of the many managers.
The interviewer usually asks questions about how you react in certain customer service situations such as prioritizing and dealing with displeased customers. So I would say to prepare your answers on that. It’s important to also be confident in yourself. They are really great people.
You dress Up causal, you give a good eye contact have a firm handshake. They asked you some brief questions like "How will you advertise your sales like, you get your customer get that sale?" Use connections to persuade customers like, for an example Key getting your customer get a Macy's Credit Card, telling them the benefits of having a Macy's Credit Card that non card holder can do. Another question would be "how would you handle a tough situation with a tough customer on you?" At first use your abilities like, try to see what you can do before getting your manager to handle because, one of the busy days, your manager wouldn't be there to help you out.
Look at some common interview questions online, they were interested in examples of a situation when ______. An example question was "Tell me about a time when you had to work with a team and how you worked together?" or "tell me about a time when you disagreed with a group member and how you resolved this conflict?" Mostly they focused on how you work with a team, how you problem solve, and they asked a few questions on how to approach a customer at the store. There main focus is on the customer and making sure you acknowledge them and help them find things. They are also really big on their loyalty (getting customers to get a Macy's credit card.)
Review past jobs and think of scenarios you can use to talk about team-building and problem solving. They like to know how you solve issues as they come up and use past experience as the frame for these questions.
The interview process I went through was fairly straightforward, so no need to worry! They ask a couple questions such as "what would you do if you see a customer stealing merchandise?" No worries about getting the perfect answer, they're mostly wanting to see how you think. Given that Sales Associate is geared towards customer service, try answering the questions with that in mind! Above all, be friendly and attentive to the questions they ask you. Hope that helps!
Don’t sweat it, this is the same as any other retail interview. Do a bit of research on the company so that you know how to answer questions like “why do you want to work here?” and try to be as personable as possible while still being professional.
To start at any sales position in any company, one must prepare for answering with great enthusiasm and focus on the importance providing customer service. Be prepared to answer a lot of scenario questions regarding interactions with tough customers and harder to answer questions like "Name one time you provided great service and what you think made it great service".
Depending on what department you would want to be in, be sure to do as much research on the position as possible. It looks really good to an employer when you have taken the time to do your own personal research. Also be sure to ask SEVERAL questions; anything related to pay, benefits, wardrobe, etc. Be the best employee you can be in hopes to move up in the company in the future.
The main things that I found helpful during my interview were having some knowledge of the Macy’s brand, such as stores associated with Macy’s and exclusive designers/brands offered by Macy’s, and having an extensive knowledge of the retail industry and jargon used within it.
