Former New Media, Design, and Production Intern at National Park Service
about 2 years ago
During my time at the internship, the office hired three interns for the New Media, Design, and Production internship. One of the interns was the Graphic Designer, and was responsible for creating brochures, booklets, and signs for the parks. Another intern was the Social Media intern, who was tasked with collecting content for the NPS website as well as curating social media posts. My position was the Digital Photo Archivist, where it was my responsibility to organize nearly 100,000 photos taken by our volunteer photographers, make sure everything was file named and keyworded correctly, and find photos per request. I was also in charge of the photography and video equipment. To be considered for any of these positions, technical skills are important. For the graphic design role, one must be familiar with design techniques and have a working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite. For the photo archivist position, one must be extremely detail oriented and proficient with the Adobe Creative Suite, but particularly Adobe Lightroom. Lastly, the social media intern would preferably have experience working with social media and have strong written and verbal communication skills.
