Clean Water Action has a really laid back and inviting company culture. Everyone who works there is very friendly and caring, and even if you are just a summer intern like I was, they will make sure you feel at home there. It is evident that everyone who works there considers everyone else there a friend - not just a co-worker. They want to help with your career development and your personal development too.
The culture surrounding Clean Water Action is very liberal while being inclusive at the same time. The diversity within the Clean Water Action community is great (coming from a white queer woman, of course) and I believe that CWA (I will be referring to them as CWA for now) has the intention as a whole to include any and all persons to their team. I do not think they are discriminatory in any way. I think that they are very inclusive to all peoples and make sure their employees are informed when it comes to cultural diversity and things like that. I did not feel uncomfortable in any way; I believe that every person there wanted to help me if I needed it and had their own goals that they held close to them. Everyone was friendly, funny, enjoyable to be around, and great people overall.
The company culture at clean water action is strong, and the people there generally believe in the organization's mission to change the way Michigan uses its natural resources. However, most of the entry level jobs there are tiresome and difficult door to door lobby based jobs. General hours are 2-10 P.M., and it's tough to say that it's a very good job for full-time students.
Clean Water Action is a grassroots non-profit, so the culture is pretty lax. I would describe it as an incredibly friendly work environment with an excellent structure to it. For example, every week there is a staff night where staff members hang out and drink together. At the same time there is also a strong emphasis on success because they do not keep canvassers who do not meet their quotas.
Working for Clean Water Action, the culture was one of liberal thought and a passionate to push towards a goal of getting environmentally friendly policies in front of our state legislators. Everyone had a common goal and worked towards that with a gusto.
