Former Sales Associate at The Sherwin-Williams Company
about 2 years ago
First off, sales associate is usually the bottom rung of a retail company, so I don't know why anyone would want to make that their career, aka stay one the entire time they're there/working overall. Furthermore, like many companies, they have a bunch of part time employees to avoid paying for any benefits. The schedule isn't set either, so it can be hard to plan things, but my manager at least was fairly flexible. Also, the pay rate is only $9.50 per hour starting. Additionally, some customers supposedly didn't know that they needed a huge order until right before the job's supposed to start, and then get upset when some of the items aren't available and or everything isn't assembled in 5 minutes.
Sherwin-Williams is a good place to start a career in sales and management. One of the nice things about Sherwin-Williams is that they promote from within and the people around you want to see you advance in your career. You could easily start as a Management & Sales Intern and work your way to a store manager or sales representative.
