The company culture promoted an open door policy, encouraged feedback and communication via regular department meetings, and provided a good work life balance

There is not a very strong work/life balance. You are expected to work outside of home and balancing patient time and administrative time is a competitive demand. There is a strong mission, but there can be weak management between roles. It is a good beginning environmental culture to learn research methods though.

The culture at MSKCC is very mission driven and patient experience focused. Specifically, their mission is the treatment and finding a cure for cancer. So everything from the way teams are structured to the projects you are given are geared towards this mission or bettering the patient experience. Aside from being mission driven, the culture is friendly, diverse, close knit, and there is a good mix of work life balance. It isn’t uncommon to have someone on your team who has been with MSKCC for 10+ years.

I think it is a great place to work! A lot of the staff and professionals that work there are really friendly and approachable. If you find someone you want to talk to about their career, you can definitely take the help of your mentor to reach out to that person and set up a time to chat with him/her! Additionally, during the summer internship, there are seminars that you can attend to learn more about certain topics in cancer and even see the work that other teams are doing.

The culture at MSKCC is friendly. The first summer I came into the lab, it was clear to me that everyone there were friends with one another. There are a lot of jokes and laughs and everyone helps each other out. Each researcher has their area of expertise, and people come to one another with questions all the time. It’s a very inviting environment for sure.
