Unilever is an absolutely fantastic place to kickstart a career. They invest so much time into there co-ops not only to build the grounds for successful future employees but the success of future Packaging Engineers. With the vast amount of knowledge and resources available to each co-op at Unilever there is no limit to success. I would highly recommend Unilever to any students as they are a tremendous company not only for co-ops, but as a whole.
I would say that it depends on what your career goals are as you start off. I should also mention that there several factories, each with a unique environment and associated “challenges”. I would say that if you are interested in working as a field engineer/in manufacturing, it is a good place to start. The organization throws quite a lot of challenges at you, which offers a unique learning experience that is rather valuable. There also are a lot of people who are dedicated to making sure that you have all the tools and training needed to do your job, and the remuneration and benefits are quite competitive for the Nigerian market.
One thing I should mention is that it is a fast paced environment that often requires flexibility of performance - by which I mean that since the ultimate goal of the team is to hit high volumes of quality products, you may be required from time to time to step into another role, especially one of operations management. Also, a lot of the training is on-the-job, and while it takes a while to acclimatize to the environment and understand how things work, there are continuous expectations of your performing. Hence, if you are cut out for it, then do not hesitate to go for it.
