Former Electronics Engineer at Lockheed Martin

I enjoyed working as an Electronics Engineer at Lockheed Martin because first and most important as this may sound like a cliche answer, but the products you work on have an impact on the country's military or even other country's military. Second, as an electronics engineer you work on and get hands on experience of the multiple avionics systems of the aircraft. To emphasize and this is a short list but there are various avionics systems on an aircraft ranging from displays, electronic warfares, radars, communications, and navigations. Depending on the group, but I was fortunate to be able to work in a simulation environment where I was involved with integrating and testing of the units. As a plus, after hours were fun as I got to fly as much as I wanted to in the simulator. Finally, you work with industry experts that have years of experience and are willing to mentor you along the way.

There was no real down side. Test engineering, evaluation of designs, makes you a better designer. The system engineering controlling document not only covers design requirements also evaluation requirements, thus synergistic situation. Also more diverse job profile you have, increases your mobility.

Former Missiles and Fire Control Intern at Lockheed Martin

I liked the ability to apply what I learn in the classroom to exciting projects in the aerospace industry. It was also interesting to see how a company works in day to day life. It is difficult to understand a typical work day as an engineer if you don't immerse yourself in an internship. I didn't like how slow aerospace companies function. There are many government regulations and the company is very large. This causes ineffective communication and a slow workplace.
