You either work with the research assistants of a fellow, directly with a fellow, or both on fiscal policy proposals and research. With an organization as prestigious as AEI, conducted research often gets the attention of high profile political figures in Washington DC. Sure, its best knowing that it is a center-right think tank, but regardless of politics, it's the opportunity to engage on meaningful projects that really matters.

It depends what department you’re in, but I would say generally that you provide support to the research assistants and seniors by completing smaller research projects that help them complete their larger projects (e.g., reports, books, presentations, etc.). This could involve pulling data or qualitative information from online or in print and packaging it in a more quickly/easily digestible form for them, drafting charts or tables to be included in those final projects, etc.
