Working in the exhibition department at AMNH was such an enjoyable experience for me because the entire exhibition team works at the intersection of my two favorite ways of looking a the world- science and presentation. Science, because of the AMNH legacy, means thinking about the cutting edge of our knowledge about the natural world. Performance, on the other hand, is the artistry that figures out how to communicate emotionally and truthfully to a breadth of people. Every person in the exhibition department thinks deeply about how to communicate and demonstrate the ideas at hand, so working alongside them is a special experience. The entire work is to make accessible and ideas, knowledge, and perspectives tangible. This means art and sculpture and sound and sight and touch and everything that can transport and expose minds to unfamiliar landscapes of knowledge.
