A day in the life of an Assistant Buyer is really doing whatever needs to be done to make your buyer and your team's life easier, and anticipating what other things could be done to help you department. Some day-to-day responsibilities would include reporting, order input, and following up with vendors on the status of incoming orders. You will also help with some assortment selection and analyzing item performance. To succeed in this role it is important to learn as much as possible and then figure out ways that processes could be improved and show that you understand the flow of business. Ideally, by then end of this role you should have a good enough grasp of the business that your buyer is comfortable giving you the responsibility of independently managing some smaller departments and other one-off projects.
