Former Hunter Rawlings III Presidential Research Scholar at Cornell University
almost 2 years ago
Very well! At the time of me joining the program, I was one of the few Fiber Science majors representing the scholarship group, and it definitely encouraged more students from non-traditional backgrounds to take advantage of the program. If anything, Rawlings teaches students that research can be performed from any major, and of any interest. Coming from a creative yet analytical discipline, I was able to leverage my Fiber Science background to design a project focusing on my interests in sustainability and materials.
Funds from my scholarship set me up early to become an independent and curious thinker, with the financial flexibility to present at conferences too.
