Former Economic Development Intern at Southwestern Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE)
My days tended to vary a lot. Throughout the school year while I was there, I focused mainly on communications-related projects like updating the website, creating infographics to share with the community, and updating existing pamphlets with new information. Most weeks my supervisor would take me on site visits to meet with business owners, and the goal was to maintain a good relationship and make sure they didn't have any issues. My supervisor did a good job of presenting me with a variety of tasks, then after I was there for a while I could do what I liked and was good at, but I could also go outside my comfort zone and try something new.
All of the SOCHE interns within the City of Dayton had weekly meetings as a part of the program. This provided a way to discuss what we had learned, help each other solve problems, and meet with city officials who discussed why they love working in government.
