  1. Be prepared to show a situation in which you made a difference with a particular idea, concept or program you belonged to or worked for during your time at WMU. It can be as big as an internship in any of the departments to as little as simply spreading the news about your campus organization through social media.
  2. Be able to show that you not only want to provide outreach for a non profit governmental entity, but you also will be willing to set goals that you will be able to measure to see if you meet them. Just saying "I will grow social media outreach a lot if you hire me" isn't good enough. Be prepared to use measurable analytics to show your progress.
  3. Familiarize yourself with local government and how it operates. Take a look at the last budget because in this case it is public information. Where do they spend most of their constituents' tax dollars? What parts of the operation do they need to help residents understand?
