First thing is to have all your certifications ready, you will need a prehospital certification such as an EMT, Paramedic or PreHospital RN and have some prehospital experience. Then you need ACLS, PALS having a trauma certification helps as well. Having experience in Critical Care along with Emergency Department experience will assist in being very well rounded. You will need at least 5 years of nursing experience. Best thing is be yourself, a good personality really stands out. Being a Flight Nurse you need to be a people person and be outgoing. A big part of the job is interacting with not only patients but staff from referring facilities, fire departments and EMS services. Good communication skills are a must. Those are some of the key points I can give you. Good Luck!
