Former Complaint Counselor at American Civil Liberties Union
almost 2 years ago
This is a short Complaint Counselor work cycle. At a team meeting each week, the Complaint Counselor supervisor will distribute multiple complaints made to the ACLU during the previous week to each Complaint Counselor. During the week, each Complaint Counselor is responsible for doing legal research on their complaints. Online research as well as email and telephone correspondence with the complainant directly is utilized primarily. If a Complaint Counselor believes that the complaint has legal standing and is of a subject matter in which the ACLU would be interested in pursuing, the Complaint Counselor will bring the complaint to the supervisor for legal consideration. If the complaint is not one that the ACLU can or will pursue, the Complaint Counselor will send a letter to the complainant letting them know that their complaint will not be pursued by the ACLU.
Complaint Counselors are given the opportunity to do their own legal research, problem solve, and learn from professionals in the field!
