Former Communications Intern, National Portrait Gallery at Smithsonian Institution
over 2 years ago
There are a lot of emails to reply to, people to call, pitches to write and send out, and press releases to begin drafting. NPG internships also include a variety of development programs for interns like daily lunch lectures with other staff members in each of the different departments. These lectures are chances for interns to hear from different staff about what their jobs are like and go on mini tours of the archives or specific exhibitions in the museum, for example. (Take advantage of these opportunities! They were super fun and insightful.) If possible, communications interns also get to help out with media events like press previews or filming with news teams that takes place in the Gallery itself.
