Former Volunteer in the Elementary School at Utah State Hospital
almost 2 years ago
I think my studies in psychology have greatly prepared me for the volunteering at the State Hospital. Even more specifically, I think my abnormal psychology class has greatly contributed to my preparation and understanding. All of the students have a reason for being admitted to the Utah State Hospital, and many of those reasons point to mental illnesses. It is important to have this background as I help assist and interact with the children. It's critical to respect them and their confidentiality and to just be supportive and caring towards them.
