You must have compassion in your heart. The will to help people who cannot help themselves. You will come across many patients who do not have much, if any, family around to be there for them. It’s your job to love them and take care of them. I always tell future caregivers, “take care of you’re resident as you would take care of your own grandparent”. The physical aspect, caregiving can be HARD. Sometimes you’ll have immobile residents who need help being lifted on and off the toilet, in and out of bed. It’s a demanding job but if you form great relationships with your residents, you will LOVE you job and it is the most rewarding feeling.
