Make sure to highlight your social skills and taste for fashion. Explain why you think you speak well with others and tell why you chose to apply for GAP. Make it clear that you like their clothes and style.

Interviews at Gap typically go well if you apply at the right season. Most of the people I know were immediately accepted to a job if they applied just before Thanksgiving, whereas the interview was a bit more rigorous at other times of the year. The main focus is usually why you applied at Gap, and they want to hear that you love their brand.

The main qualities and experiences you should highlight in an interview for a Sales Associate role at Gap, Inc. are team work, responsibility, customer service, and clothing experiences. You will be working as a team every day to meet sales goals, so you have to be a team player and be able to work with everyone even if it's a person that you don't really like. They may ask you a question about an experience working on a group project or what you would do if someone in a group was slacking. Responsibility is huge because the managers need to know that you are a person who will actually show up on time to your shift and will efficiently and carefully complete all your tasks. They may ask you a question about past jobs or other extracurricular activities so that they can gauge your time management skills and whether or not you take pride in your work. Customer service basically means that you are patient and can help a customer without blowing up at that person or getting really nervous. You don't necessarily need customer service experience, but you do need to be able to talk to people in a calm, collected, and happy manner. Clothing experience is also important. This doesn't mean necessarily that you need to have prior sales associate experience. This means that you know clothes and you enjoy working with them because that's the whole job.

In my experience with gap they were more interested in who I was as a person, if I have any biases towards people or prejudices. Gap is an incredibly inclusive company so they really make sure their team members are as accepting and embracing as they are. Another thing they asked me about was, of course my past retail experience and why I chose to apply at gap, for this I gave a completely honest answer.

In an interview for a Sales Associate position at Gap it's important to highlight your teamwork abilities, since these qualities are extremely vital for working in a sales team (such as the team of employees at Gap). Being able to communicate, coordinate, and work together with your co-workers is very important. Don't forget to mention that you can function independently and are able to take lead when necessary, such as being able to assist customers in shopping without the help of the manager or other sales associates. Being responsible, punctual, and professional are also great qualities to mention.

In an interview for a sales associate position, I would highlight positivity and friendliness since Gap really values their customer service and is looking for sales associates who can make customers feel welcome right when they walk into the door. They really emphasize making the customer feel important and cared for so emphasizing that you enjoy helping people and like engaging in conversation will help a lot. In addition, having self-initiative and being quick on your feet are very important, since you will be working the floor a lot a sales associate and won't always have a specific job to do. You should be looking for ways you can help rather than just waiting for someone to ask for help. Finally, the ability to learn quickly and follow directions is helpful, since there are a lot of new tasks, machinery and processes that you will have to learn how to do, and managers don't have time to teach you twice.

In terms of qualities and experiences, shoot for qualities. Gap Inc. loves to see people who are engaged and passionate. Highlight anything that shows you can interact with customers and help make a positive shopping experience for the customers. Even if your only connection to this engagement and passion is that you love shopping I believe that it will have a positive impact on your interview. All and all the interviews are looking for people who are willing to be productive in tidying the store and engaging customers, the latter seeming to be more important to Gap Inc.

Highlight any customer service and/or brand management experience. It's probably also a bonus if your availability is fairly open and flexible because that makes it easier to schedule you. However, having a lot of availability doesn't necessarily mean you'll get scheduled as many hours as you'd like, especially at first, so make sure to communicate with the manager about how much you want to work.
