Former Curatorial Assistant at Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation
almost 2 years ago
History absolutely prepared me for this job; having a historical background gave me a lot of context for dealing with the objects and exhibitions that I encountered in the museums. Museum Studies helped quite a bit too; it gave me fundamental knowledge of how everything in a museum worked, the best practices, and the best set up for things like exhibits and objects.
If you are not a History major, or you're still early in your career, don't panic. The job is also a good position to learn as you go. Having basic skills will help you go far in the internship.
