The typical day is relatively flexible. The digital archivist is usually allowed to come in at their own time. Coming in earlier in the day (around 9am) ensures a quieter work space before the post opens. At the post individuals will go through materials located in a storage room and begin the process of sorting of what is valuable to archive. There are a wide range of materials, including pictures, newspapers, brochures, documents and forms, and some personal materials. Individuals will refine their process for what works best for them. Personal motivation is required as most of the time is done unsupervised but occasionally with American Legion members overseeing the process.
