Bilingual First Grade Teacher at Bilingual Education For Central America
over 1 year ago
BECA (bilingual Education for Central America) looks for candidates that are culturally sensitive, adaptable, can demonstrate experience working in difficult settings, and who have at least some experience working with children or teaching. My best advice is to first research the Mission and Vision of BECA and become familiar with their model. In addition, it is important to familiarize yourself with the various social issues and implications that came along with working in a developing country; the challenges that face Honduras include gang violence, poverty, lack of resources, and corruption.
Additionally, come prepared with the WHY. It takes a certain type of person to live abroad for a year and it is important that you are able to express why you want to volunteer abroad, as well as how you are prepared to do so.
