Former Globe North High School Sports Reporter at The Boston Globe
over 1 year ago
First, familiarize yourself with the Globe North sports section and some of the schools within its jurisdiction. It’s good to go into an interview with some idea of what the job will entail, and perhaps you can pick up on some compelling trends you’d be excited to cover, such as new coaches to keep an eye on, a particular rivalry that’s heating up, or the prominence of co-op teams within communities. Mention potential story ideas in your interview to give the interviewer a glimpse of what you may be able to do. I also recommend developing a few questions for the interviewer. You’ll likely be interviewed by your future editor, and anything you can do to make yourself stand out in their mind will be key to distinguishing yourself from other candidates.
