I received a lot of support from my project manager at Kiewit, but he didn’t walk me through anything step by step. There’s no “hand holding” here. You can ask questions and people will guide you and help you but ultimately the expectation is that you develop a method for being a problem solver, look up videos for how to do stuff when you’re unsure, try to answer your own questions first, etc. Your PM has work to do and as an intern the company hopes that you help lighten the load, not increase it.
I was directly involved with upper management all of the time. They would stop by the office often, and we would have an engineering workshop with the head of my department every Friday where he would go over new facets of the job. I was very pleased with the relationship I had with upper management.
