Former Administrative Assistant at University of Pennsylvania

You'll have lots of free time on days when not much is going on (such as the summer), but other than that you will probably be working on tasks given to you by your admin, answering phone calls (mostly redirecting them), and addressing questions that visitors might have. Often you will be asked to make copies of books for professors, make or update simple excel spreadsheets for department purchases, mailboxes, and other directories, sort the incoming mail, and send the occasional email. Again, these responsibilities are largely mission-based, meaning that your day can flex one way or another depending on the immediate needs of the office.
