Former Supply Chain Operations Management Intern at GE
almost 2 years ago
One of my favorite parts of this job was that it was very hands on - about 40% of my time was spent working on the manufacturing floor. I worked at the Charlottesville plant and I was able to do projects for the Environmental, Health and Safety, Manufacturing and Engineering departments. I completed a wide variety of projects such as creating employee training videos, designing ergonomic observation sheets, and implementing 5S methodology on the manufacturing floor. With the electrical and software engineering interns, I helped create an ‘Internet of Things’ cloud application that pulled metrics from the manufacturing floor. It was a little bit of everything and I was able to pursue projects that I found interesting. Personally, I used Java, Excel, and Movie Maker quite a bit and learned about manufacturing principals such as 5S, Hierarchy of controls, 5 Whys and 7 Ways.
