Former Student Researcher at Utah Valley University

It depends on the research project. On my projects (looking at an overall project) it was usually 1-3 weeks of data collection, another 50-70 hours of data analysis, 20 hours of prepping a presentation for a conference. But that doesn't include literature reviews, coming up with a hypothesis and a project or writing procedures. So on a day-to-day level it varies. Sometimes it's sitting at a computer for 5-6 hours between classes plugging numbers into an Excel spreadsheet, reading scientific articles in the evening before going to bed or doing weeklong data collection trips in remote parts of the desert.
