The hallmark skill set to maintain in most high level customer service roles would include an in depth knowledge base coupled with keen listenting skills and an empathetic, one-on-one relationship with the customer or prospect which is reflective of those developed qualities of the skill set.
A conversational tone and genuine concern to vigorously address the customer inquiry, combined with a good sense of light hearted humor when appropriate wouldn't hurt, either.
The best skill to have in any customer service field is the ability to deescalate a situation and good work ethic. Employers want someone who is empathetic and maintains a friendly and helpful attitude.
