Former Orange County Public Defender Intern at Orange County Public Defender

Everyday looked relatively the same. Once you go into the office, the first thing you do is look at the scheduled interviews for the day. Typically, the investigative assistants will ask you to conduct certain ones, but I always liked requesting to do certain interviews if I was interested in a particular case. After your interview (which will take about 45min-60min), you will write a summary of your interview and hand it to one of the assistants, who will submit it for you. This was my typical day, which always went by very fast.
If you are not much of an interviewer, you can also rotate between the office and the courtroom, where you will essentially be assisting attorneys with paperwork. I personally preferred to interview because I had prior experience, and I believe it taught me more about how to ask questions in a legal setting.
