Former Electronics Hardware Engineer at GE Appliances

Full-time employees work 45-50 hours per week, usually. Co-ops work 40, usually. You must be willing to put in the extra 30 minutes of effort at 5:00pm instead of immediately leaving if that extra effort will be beneficial to the team. Since GE Appliances is becoming more global every day, full-time employers may be required to have conference calls around 8 or 9pm to communicate with our parent company, Haier, in China. They aren’t super long and aren’t that frequent, but they are outside of the normal work hours. Be aware.
Your work/life balance will be just fine. You are expected to, and can only work up to, 40 hours a week. In a lot of cases, mine included, I would work 9 hour days monday-thursday and then take a half day on Friday. In the summer, there are a lot of interns - this year 70, and in past years over 100, and we all live in the penn state housing so it's a lot like college dorms. But in the fall and spring, there are a lot less interns, so it is a little bit less social. That doesn't mean you won't have anything to do! But you'll have plenty of free time, and no homework taking it up.
