My majoring in Psychology has prepared me in many ways to excel as a personal trainer. Aside from communication skills both orally and written. Psychology has taught me how to relate with clients from a variety of back grounds. It has helped me gage where a client maybe motivationally and to what extent he or she is willing to commit to make changes. For instance, learning psychological theories like: transtheoretical model. It has helped to effectively perform motivational interviewing. Which is a key skill needed to be a good personal trainer. Also, it has provided education that has greatly enhanced interpersonal skills. These skills help clients “buy” into their programming. Ultimately, resulting greater exercise adherence.
