Former Business Analyst Intern at McKinsey & Company
almost 3 years ago
While most business analyst interns assist analysts and associates in performing market research and data input (Excel), I was fortunate enough to be given the same jobs as full-time analysts. Apart from doing market research and data analysis, I helped in building financial models in Excel, wrote risk assessment reports and performed higher level data analysis (instead of just looking up the data in the databases).
Summer Business Analysts are actually staffed to real client engagements and are asked to do actual client work. You will work with an Engagement Manager, Associates, and Business Analysts on a Client Service Team (CST) and travel to the location of your client, if needed. Depending on your study, you will likely have multiple client interactions as well.
Pretty same work as Associate, sometimes with more focus on analytical work, in many cases BA and Associates responsibilities do not differ. You work on your project workstream, conduct interviews with clients, interviews with experts, draw slides, build models in excel and do calculations, present to the client at meetings. I wouldn't say that the work is very intellectual and creative, since in most cases you follow EM's guidance and expertise already acquired in the company.
