Former Lecturer at California State University, Stanislaus
over 2 years ago
The life of a lecturer isn't typically fantastic anywhere. Compared with similar schools, though, I came to deeply appreciate how the non-tenured colleagues are treated at Stan State. You'll be encouraged to participate in campus governance, welcomed into department meetings (and actually given a voice), and you most likely feel a strong sense of support from your T-type peers.
Downsides? You'll earn more per class teaching in the nearby Yosemite Community College District, and you'd certainly earn more income over in the Bay Area (though you likely won't be supported with benefits in either of those venues). You may also suffer from a lack of reasonable expectation that courses will be offered to you from one semester to the next.
