You will have a lot of ownership over your work. Most if not all the projects will be completed by you alone with the help and instruction of your project manager. If you go above and beyond, it will be noticed.

You will have complete ownership of your work because it is not team based. The environment at Morgan Stanley is competitive around advisors so there is not much team work. Other interns can help because as interns, you are in the same boat here but it is completely independent work.

As an intern, your job is to take the marching orders and get it done. Once you’ve been told what to do, you will be expected to own that task and you will be accountable for the outcome. I heard many tales of interns before me who had been let go for various failures. This is why taking ownership of your work and having full confidence in your work product is essential. No matter how menial, approach every task ready to give 100%. Whether that’s putting together a report for an advisor or making a cup of coffee for a client, put in the same amount of seriousness and effort. It should be the best cup of coffee the client has had! (Not literally, but you get the point)

Every task provided is reviewed by the FA since most of the work is dealing with highly sensitive information. During my internship I was given a task in which I would complete it and then sit and review with the FA which was a great learning opportunity. Be a self starter and try to get as far a possible before asking. It shows initiative and a desire to learn and grow within the field.
