Former Nuclear Engineering Pathways Intern at Norfolk Naval Shipyard
over 1 year ago
My favorite part of the job was the flexibility. I really liked moving from department to department and project to project. Interns are given a high degree of freedom (upon earning a government security clearance) to access plenty of people and areas so that down time can still be useful and enjoyable.
The only thing I really disliked was that some departments didn't quite seem prepared to have interns around, so sometimes there would be a week where there wasn't much useful work to do. The upside to that, however, was that we could then use that time to go meet more people, explore more of the facilities, and generally learn more about the place at which we were working.
