Professorial Assistant at Michigan State University

Professorial Assistantships are given based on academic merit, taking into account SAT or ACT scores. Because of this, there is no true “interview”, but there is a first meeting with your assigned staff member to discuss what you know and what you may need to know about your position. This is a casual meeting - no need to prepare anything.

Conduct some research on the Professor you will be interviewing with and his/her project so that you can ask questions and convey interest in their work. Also, think about what you want to get out of your professorial assistanship. Are you considering a career in research? Do you intend to pursue a higher education beyond your undergraduate? Many professors wil ask questions related to these to gauge your interest in and commitment to their lab.

Chances are, if you're in the PA program, you've been offered a spot there by the university. When meeting the professor you're working under, you pretty much already have the position. Just make sure to express interest in the work you'll be doing and research what the lab does before you go in.
