The main qualities/experiences that should be highlighted in an interview for an editor-in-chief position at The Odyssey are time management, dedication, problem solving skills, a strong understanding of AP Style and SEO and creativity.
I would highlight writing experience. Even if you haven't necessarily edited yet, definitely highlight things you've written because you have to go through your own editing process every time you write something anyways. You usually can't just be an EIC--You have to be a creator within an Odyssey community for a little while before trying to become an editor.
I would say dedication to the platform/role. To really improve visibility and internet presence, an EIC must take time [often a lot] to boost people's articles, reach out to them personally and boost overall engagement in and outside of the community. I was an EIC for a year and a half, and I really believe it's the small but extra miles that add up and build a successful community. So someone who is serious about the job. If they have internet analytics experience, that's a huge plus! And sharp reading/editing skills are necessary too, of course.
Definitely highlight editing and writing experience. Group work and community work is also important because you work with a team. If you have good examples of tricky communication, that's great too. Working on online interfaces helps too.
