Job Summary
Thomas Steel Strip Corp. is searching for a Labor Relations & Talent Recruitment Specialist to work out of their Warren, Ohio facility. This person will provide support in running the daily functions of the HR department with focus on labor relations and recruitment activities including internal and external job postings, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and conducting new hire orientation of hourly and salaried personnel, training and education for employees, issuing discipline as necessary, and enforcing company policies and practices.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Include the following:
- Acts as lead Employee/Labor Relations liaison and initial contact for hourly employees in managing situations related to discipline and employee complaints/grievances and other personnel actions. 0.50
- Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations, and performs routine tasks supporting disciplinary actions, disputes, performance and talent management, employee morale and recognition, occupational health and safety, and training and development. 0.20
- Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings. 0.10
- Create and manage weekly rotating shift schedules for hourly union employees, ensuring operational coverage, compliance with labor agreements and policies, coordination of time-off requests and exceptions, effective communication of changes, collaboration with stakeholders, accurate recordkeeping, efficient use of scheduling tools, and support for staffing optimization and issue resolution. 0.09
- Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licenses, and aptitude exams and certifications. 0.01
- Manage, support, and oversee apprenticeship program while ensuring curriculum alignment, providing guidance, monitoring apprentice progress. 0.01
- Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to appropriate staff. 0.01
- Establishes external relationships at colleges/universities in the community and recruiting professionals to generate an ongoing pipeline of candidates. 0.01
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance. 0.01

- Coordinate on-line testing requirements. 0.01
- Submits background checks and employee eligibility verifications. 0.01
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law. 0.01
- Assists HR in meeting the business needs of the organization through reliability and accuracy in following instructions with the ability to multitask and acclimatize in a fast-paced environment. 0.01

Qualifications/Experience Required:
- BS degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources (2-4 years’ experience in Human Resources and Recruitment)
- 2 – 5 years’ experience of demonstrated recruiting success (preferred)
- Skilled in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Detail-oriented
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent Communicator
- Ability to demonstrate initiative, adaptability, and follow through
- High level of confidentiality
