The Wisconsin Veterans Home in Union Grove (WVHUG) is seeking a full-time Food Service Assistant 3, to serve as a lead worker for our Dietary Services team. The Home is a 24/7/365 long-term care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional healthcare services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Food Service Manager, the Food Service Assistant 3 functions as the lead worker in Dietary Services at WVHUG. Duties include leading and coordinating Food Service Assistant 2 employees engaged in portioning product, tray line posts, ware washing, cleaning and sanitation, and assembling nourishments and snacks. As the lead worker, trains and mentors food service staff in all aspects of their job. Work activities are performed according to established procedure and in accordance with safety, sanitation and production standards of WDVA and WVHUG.

Salary Information

Starting wage is $18.49 per hour, with additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays and overtime, plus an attractive employee benefits package.

The Food Service Assistant 3 is in pay schedule-pay range 03-10. 

Pay will be set in accordance with the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan in effect at the time of hire. Starting pay for current state employees may vary based on applicable provisions in the Compensation Plan. 

Job Details

The regular work schedule for this Food Service Lead Worker is 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, plus every other weekend. Temporarily, the start and end times may vary from the regular work schedule. The position requires availability to work overtime as needed.

Job duties include moving carts weighing an average of 500 pounds safely through hallways; moving equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance; moving equipment and supplies weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance; and performing medium to heavy manual labor.

Due to the nature of the position, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.

Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.

A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

Additional required and preferred experience that will be assessed later in the selection process are:

  • Training others; and
  • With time management and keeping on schedule; and
  • Using food safety and sanitation rules and procedures; and/or
  • Preparing or serving food for modified diets; and/or
  • In a formal lead worker role; and/or
  • Working on a team and resolving conflict; and/or
  • Following work safety rules and procedures, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements

ServSafe certification is preferred.
