The North Central Texas Emergency Communications District (NCT9-1-1) provides life-saving 9-1-1 services across a 13-county region. As part of our mission to foster the next generation of IT professionals, we are seeking a motivated and tech-savvy IT Infrastructure Intern to support our dynamic Infrastructure and Security Team.
Position Summary
As an IT Infrastructure Intern, you will gain real-world experience maintaining and securing mission-critical systems that support emergency communications. This is a hands-on role offering exposure to enterprise-level technologies including Windows Server, virtualization, cybersecurity tools, and infrastructure monitoring platforms. Ideal for students or recent graduates pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in monitoring and maintaining 9-1-1 infrastructure systems, internal servers, and staff workstations
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues for internal users
- Support account administration tasks (Active Directory, group policies, access provisioning)
- Apply Windows Server updates and help patch vulnerabilities following cybersecurity standards
- Conduct vulnerability scans and support remediation tracking
- Update Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) records (hardware inventory, rack layouts, cabling documentation)
- Create and revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for routine tasks
- Assist in monitoring and documenting virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware)
- Analyze system logs, alerts, and dashboards for performance and security issues
- Deploy, configure, and maintain endpoint systems (desktops, laptops, peripherals)
- Contribute to cybersecurity tasks such as system hardening, MFA setup, and access control
- Support disaster recovery and backup verification processes
- Provide Tier 1 technical support and escalate unresolved issues
- Track and manage IT asset inventory and ensure compliance with lifecycle plans
- Assist with IT budget research including EOL tracking, vendor recommendations, and renewal cost estimates
- Participate in scheduled maintenance, upgrades, and technology deployments
Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university degree seeking program - IT, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field preferred
- Basic understanding of networking, system administration, and security principles
- Familiarity with Windows Server, Active Directory, and virtualization (preferred)
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn
- Attention to detail and ability to follow technical documentation
- Excellent communication and organizational skills

Starting Salary
- $18.00 per hour
