The Technical Specialist 1 - Park Planner position manages the planning, design and construction of public park facilities by applying knowledge of urban and recreation planning, architectural and landscape design, sustainable development and best practices in construction to the management of park capital projects. The position is located within the Planning & Facilities Development Division of the Metro Nashville Parks Department

 

  • Implement short and long-range recommendations as established in adopted departmental planning documents.
  • Participate in strategic planning initiatives.
  • Prepare requests for proposals (RFPs) and invitations to bid.
  • Manage projects teams, architects, general contractors and other consultants to ensure successful and efficient project delivery.
  • Responsibly manage project budgets.
  • Guide and review the development of design documents for compliance with established park facility standards and departmental goals.
  • Ensure project compliance with Metro procurement, regulatory and policy processes, requirements and goals.
  • Integrate sustainable development best management practices in all projects.
  • Coordinate all projects with relevant divisions, departments, partners and stakeholders.
  • Document and maintain files on all projects.
  • Support public input processes; respond to constituent inquiries; collaborate with non-governmental organizations; prepare public presentations, reports and other documents.
  • Manage or participate in special projects as assigned.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma and 8 years of experience in planning, design, construction and/or project management

**Additional education may be considered In lieu of some experience**

 

Licenses Required:

Valid Driver License

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, sustainable development, construction management or related field
  • Experience creating architectural and landscape architectural design
  • Experience with construction and sustainability
  • Proficiency in ArcMap, Adobe Creative Cloud, AutoCAD, Sketch-Up and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience in facilitating community participation and collaborative initiatives including excellent personal communication skills
  • Experience in project budgeting and public procurement processes
  • LEED accreditation
  • CPRP certification
